The app went live on Apple and Android app stores in 100 countries at 2300GMT on Wednesday.
“Let’s do this. Welcome to Threads,” Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg wrote in his first post on the app, along with a fire emoji.
Zuckerberg said the app logged 10 million sign-ups in seven hours.
Zuckerberg also offered a shot across the bow at Musk — the pair are known to be bitter rivals and have offered to wrestle it out in a cage fight.
Celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez, Shakira, and Hugh Jackman, as well as prominent politicians such as Democratic U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and outlets including The Washington Post and The Economist, have joined the Threads.
