Imran Khan is the 7th most followed world leader on Twitter

There is no secret that the cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan is a popular celebrity on social media. As a matter of fact, Imran Khan’s political party PTI and his followers are found to be extremely active on social media.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief has 8.17 million followers on Twitter which happens to make him the seventh most followed world leader on the social networking website. IK is reported to have more followers than Canadian PM Justin Trudeau, French president Emanuel Macron and Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu, who are also included in the top 10 list.

US President Donald Trump, is by far the most followed world leader on Twitter, having 53.4 million following.

Indian Prime Minister Nardendra Modi trails U.S president on 2nd position number with 43.3 million followers.

 

Pope Francis is the third most followed world leader with 17.7 million followers,

The others on the list include Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan on 4th place with 13  million followers,

While Jordan’s Queen Rania Al Abdullah is on 5th position with 10.6 million followers and Indonesian President Joko Widodo stands on 6th place with 10.2 million followers. Where as Canadian Prime minister Justin Trudeau has 4.2 million followers on his Twitter account. French President  Emanuel Macron is followed by 3.1 million people over twitter. Coming last on the list is Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu with 1.3 million followers.

By looking at the number of followers these world leaders has, one can not deny the importance of social media. All these great leaders are using Twitter as a popular platform to influence the masses. Remember the  military failed coup in Turkey, on n 15 July 2016, and how President Recep Tayyip Erdogan turned to social media for his people to help. 

“We will overcome this,” Mr Erdogan told the CNN Turk anchor. “Go to the streets and give them their answer.” He then tweeted to his 8.6m followers at that time, posted on his Facebook page, and his aides turned to WhatsApp to keep in touch with each other as they sought to wrest back control of the situation.
