Kedarnath marked the debut of starkid, Sara Ali Khan in Bollywood and despite being caught in controversies prior to the release, the film turned out to be successful winning some great response from the critics as well as the audience.
As reported by the Indian media, Sara supposedly wanted Rohit Shetty’s Simmba alongside Ranveer Singh to be her debut film and therefore in order to avoid this, Abhishek Kapoor, the director of Kedarnath had to take the legal way out.
He has been quoted as stating, “Sara has no clue what I’ve been through to finally complete the film and ensure that she rocks in it. My producer Ronnie Screwvala and I had to go to court. Then we met Rohit and sorted the dates out.”
Abhishek further added, “It is true. I was paid my full free upfront when I started this film. When the s*** hit the ceiling, I could’ve just walked away with my remuneration with not a care in the world. But I chose to not to abandon the project. I pulled it out of the crisis.”
The director also shared that when Simmba instead of Kedarnath was being called out as Sara’s debut release, he fought a battle with Sara in court and then pulled up the release of Kedarnath ahead of schedule in December, which was “logistically a crazy thing to do.”
However, be it Kedarnath or Simmba, with only two films, Sara has already carved a niche for herself in the industry.
