Bismah Maroof announces retirement from international cricket

Bismah Maroof signs off as the leading run-scorer in women's ODIs and T20Is for Pakistan

Bismah Maroof on Thursday announced retirement from international cricket;

The former Women captain announced her decision in a statement posted on social media drawing curtains on her 17-year international career.

A left-handed batswoman represented Pakistan in 276 international matches, the most by any Pakistan women cricketer.

She has scored 6,262 international runs, including 33 half-centuries, and has taken 80 international wickets with her right-arm leg-spin.

Bismah was part of the women’s squad that won the Gold Medal twice in the Asian Games, in the 2010 and 2014 editions.

Whenever the history of Pakistan women’s cricket is written, Bismah Maroof’s name will be amongst the ones who brought the game to prominence, attracted new audiences and opened doors for millions of girls across the country.

“For 17 years, cricket has been not just a sport but a passion, a dream fulfilled and a journey of growth beyond measure,” she wrote.

“With a mixture of emotions, I bid farewell to the incredible journey of representing Pakistan on the international stage,” she added.

Bismah maintained that she would be available for league cricket and would make her country proud.

Bismah made her ODI debut against India in 2006 and T20I debut against Ireland in 2009.

Thank you girl for making us proud!
