Renowned poet and dramatist Amjad Islam Amjad passed away in Lahore on Friday.
As reported he passed away during sleep, aged 79.
According to his son, when Amjad Islam Amjad didn’t wake up in the morning, they called the doctors at home.
Doctors pronounced him dead, stating he likely suffered a cardiac arrest during his sleep.
Amjad Islam Amjad was born on August 4, 1944, in Lahore.
He is regarded as one of the best teachers of Urdu.
After completing his Masters in Urdu from Punjab University in 1967, he started teaching as a teacher at MAO College in Lahore.
From 1975 to 1979, he was associated with Pakistan Television as a director.
He has held leading positions in various government institutions including ‘Urdu Science Board’ and ‘The Children’s Library Complex’.
After being associated with Radio Pakistan as a dramatist for a few years, Amjad Islam Amjad wrote several serials for PTV (Pakistan Television).
He was awarded the Pride of Performance Award in 1987 and Sitara Imtiaz in 1998.
