K-pop star Goo Hara left “Pessimistic” Note Before Death, Police say

K-pop singer Goo Hara’s death shocked the fans on Sunday. South Korean police have discovered new information regarding her tragic passing.

According to South Korean police, the former Kara member left a “pessimistic” note in her Seoul apartment before her death.

“A handwritten note that was pessimistic about her life was found on a living room table,” Lee Yong-pyo, commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, told reporters. The cause of death remains under investigation and suicide has not yet been ruled out.

Following her tragic death, fans mourning Goo’s death gathered to her funeral home on Monday, while her colleagues canceled their schedules and relayed condolences.

Goo, 28, was discovered at her home in southern Seoul by her maid at around 6 PM on Sunday, Lee said.

Better known as Hara in other parts of Asia, Goo had spoken out against cyber bullying.

Hara’s devastating death comes six months after an apparent suicide attempt in Seoul’s apartment. The star was hospitalized in May following the suicide attempt, prompting her to apologize to her fans upon her release. The singer told her fans she had been “in agony over a number of issues” leading up to her hospitalization, reports said.

While she did not directly address what had left her in agony, fans of the singer felt it could have been a result of the actions of her ex-boyfriend, Choi Jong-bum.

In 2018, the K-pop star reportedly filed a complaint against her ex for allegedly threatening to release explicit videos of the two of them. The man was found guilty of physical assault, threatening behavior and the use of unnecessary force as well as property damages, but not sexual assault, following the complaint, reports said.

The singer debuted with a five-member band Kara in 2008. They helped fan the global K-pop wave, building large fan bases in Japan, China, and other countries.

After her deal with a South Korean management agency was terminated, Koo launched a solo career in Japan and held a concert there this month.

Earlier last month, another K-pop star, Sulli, a former member of girl group f(x) and a close friend of Goo’s, was found dead at her home. Sulli, 25, whose real name was Choi Jin-ri, had also spoken out about cyber bullying.
