Mufti Popalzai asks Malala’s father to explain his daughter’s comments related to marriage!
Ever since the Malala cover story interview with British Vogue magazine, the internet is buzzing with the comments shared by the world’s youngest Nobel prize laureate related to marriage.
Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai, the imam and khateeb of Peshawar’s Qasim Ali Khan Masjid, took to social media taking notice of the comments being circulated related to Malala’s non-belief in the institution of marriage.
Tagging Malala’s father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, in a tweet, Mufti Popalzai demanded an explanation from him.
“A news report has been making the rounds on social media since yesterday that your daughter Malala Yousafzai has categorically rejected the institution of marriage and said that ‘partnership’ is better than getting married,” Mufti Popalzai tweeted.
“We are all deeply disturbed by this statement. Please explain,” he added.
Replying to Popalzai’s tweet, Ziauddin said that Malala’s interview was twisted and her comments were quoted out of context with sinister designs.
“Respected Mufti Popalzai Sahib, there is no truth in it. The media and social media have taken an excerpt of her interview out of context and shared it with their own interpretations. And that’s it,” Ziauddin replied from his verified Twitter handle.
23-year-old Malala who was born in a Muslim family hailing from Mingora, said she don’t understand why people have to get married.
“You know, on social media, everyone’s sharing their relationship stories, and you get worried…If you can trust someone or not, [and] how can you be sure,” Malala said in the interview.
Malala Yousifzai’s parents had an “arranged love marriage”, went on to add, “I still don’t understand why people have to get married. If you want to have a person in your life, why do you have to sign marriage papers, why can’t it just be a partnership?”
“My mum is like, ‘Don’t you dare say anything like that! You have to get married, marriage is beautiful,”she added.
