Nighat Dad, a prominent Pakistani lawyer and rights activist has joined the UN chief’s AI advisory board!
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the creation of the 39-member advisory body on Thursday.
Ms Dad also serves as the executive director of Digital Rights Foundation, an NGO focusing on ICTs to support human rights, inclusivity, and digital governance.
Nighat Dad in a statement, stressed the importance of recognizing potential human rights issues that may affect marginalized communities worldwide due to new technologies.
“Privileged to be included in the UN Secretary-General @antonioguterres High-Level Advisory Body on AI alongside distinguished individuals from around the world. Looking forward to addressing one of the most critical issues of our age: global governance of AI,” Dad said sharing AI Advisory Body’s statement on X-platform.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced the advisory body, stating, “For developing economies, AI offers the possibility of leapfrogging outdated technologies and bringing services directly to people where needs are bigger and for the people that need them most.”
The body’s immediate tasks would include building a global scientific consensus on risks and challenges, helping harness AI for the Sustainable Development Goals, and strengthening international cooperation on AI governance.
