A few weeks ago acclaimed web series Churails ruffled quite a lot of feathers (specifically of its supporters) as a Twitter user brought attention to the plagiarized opening sequence of the show.
“Half a minute into the web series Churails and I spot some blatant plagiarism in the opening credits. Malika Favre’s powerful illustration has been quite conveniently ripped off,” said Twitter user Amna Tariq who also tagged the original owner of the artwork, French illustrator Malika Favre.
Now as it turns out, director Asim Abbasi and his team have taken the needful measures to rectify the mistake as the Cake director came forward with a detailed explanation and apology.

“A few weeks ago the issue regarding the plagiarism/usage of an illustration created by French artist Malika Favre in Churails was brought to our attention. We immediately reached out to Malika to take the necessary measures to rectify the situation,” Asim penned down a series of tweets.
“I would also at this point like to clear the name of our animation creator, Studio Rokhan @rokhan_official of any wrongdoing,” he said, “Due to an oversight by the production house, the animation studio was provided the said artwork and given the authorisation to use it.”
Asim further stated that his silence on the matter was due to the fact that the production house needed a little time to fix their mistake and now that it’s done, he’s making the apology.
“I strongly believe that the rights of all artists must be protected and upheld at all times and would like to personally apologise for this oversight,” tweeted the director.
