Google Pays Tribute To Nazia Hassan On Her 53rd Birthday

Do you remember, Disco Deewanay? Of course you do! Silly of me to ask. The iconic song has been recreated hundreds of time but never without the golden voice of the Princess of Pop, Nazia Hassan. 3rd April 2018 marks the beautiful singer’s 53rd birthday and along with Pakistanis who still cherish the singer, Google is paying tribute to Nazia Hassan, with its doodle feature.

In a statement, honoring Nazia, Google stated, “When young Pakistani girls in the 1980s closed their eyes and clutched a pretend mic in their hands, swaying and singing, a major inspiration was Nazia Hassan.”

Adding further, the search engine giant mentioned, “Hassan, sometimes referred to as the “Princess of Pop”, was a sensation the likes of which hadn’t been seen in the region in years. Young and graceful, with long flowing hair, she charmed the country by belting out favorite songs Disco Deewane and Boom Boom alongside her brother Zohaib.”

Nazia Hassan was born on 3rd April, 1965. She started singing when she was only 10 years old and soon became known as the  “Queen of Pop” in South Asia. Nazia Hassan along with her brother Zoheb sold over 65 million records worldwide. Hassan, passed away in London, at the age of 35, after battling lung cancer, leaving her fans around the world, completely shattered.

In the past, Google has paid tribute to other legendary Pakistanis including Abdul Sattar Edhi, Noor Jehan, and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, amongst others.
