South Korean flick ‘Parasite’ wins big ahead of Oscars at SAG Awards

South Korean film Parasite made history at this year’s SAG Awards as it won over the members of the Screen Actors Guild.

The cast of South Korean film was honored at Sunday’s SAG Awards with the best ensemble award, making history as the first foreign-language film to earn the award.

“Parasite” was only the second foreign-language film nominated in the category. The first was 1998’s “Life is Beautiful.”

The flick beat “Bombshell”, “The Irishman”, “Jojo Rabbit” and “Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood” at the star-studded ceremony on Sunday’s Producers Guild Awards in Los Angeles.

Five members of the 10-person “Parasite” cast were present at the ceremony who accepted the award, while director Bong Joon Ho recorded the cast’s win from the audience.

Director Bong Joon-Ho said: “It is true that the momentum is building” for the Oscars, while actor Lee Sun-Kyun fully enjoyed the moment and shared his bliss with a joke: “I’m a little embarrassed, feeling like we´re the parasites of Hollywood now.”

“I’m so honored to receive this award in front of such amazing actors that I admire. I will never forget this beautiful night,” cast member Song Kang Ho said through a translator.

“Parasite” has been nominated for six Academy Awards categories, including best picture.
