Barbie Botox has become TikTok’s latest beauty obsession!

The hashtag #BarbieBotox currently has over 11.2 million views on the social media platform TikTok.

Currently, videos tagged #Traptox have 22.2 million views on TikTok, while #BarbieTox has 1.7 million.

According to digital trend forecasting agency Spate, views of #Traptox posts on TikTok saw 181.9% month-over-month growth in July.

Ever since the “Barbie” movie was released, there has been an uptick in demand for the use of a cosmetic procedure for the neck.

Reportedly, women have rushed to beauty clinics to have their shoulders injected with the neurotoxin to release tension and slim the appearance of the neck to mimic Margot Robbie.

Barbie botox, also called trap tox or shoulder slimming botox. The procedure involves 80 units of Botox, with 40 injected into each side of a person’s shoulder muscle.

Women in their droves have flooded the social media platform with videos showing dramatic images of their trapezius muscle Botox.

But such practice can be awfully harmful, warn health experts.

If administered incorrectly, or at the wrong dosage, Botox could paralyze the muscle completely,

One of the immediate side effects of post-botox injections is the appearance of bruises and swelling.

An overdose can cause the face to appear ‘frozen’. This means the person might have difficulty making regular facial expressions, making interactions seem less genuine.

The results can sometimes be asymmetrical, causing distress.

And if Botox is injected into blood vessels it can make people feel a bit feverish, people can get a bit unwell with it, and can cause weakness in the muscle as well.

The procedure “supposedly slims the neck and somehow that got attributed to the actress that’s playing Barbie,” Revance Therapeutics (RVNC.O) CEO Dustin Sjuts told Reuters in an interview.

“They’re not treating wrinkles or lax skin. They want less girth to their neck, a slimmer, more contoured neck,” said Scot Glasberg, president-elect of the Plastic Surgery Foundation, who practices in New York.

The approval of such injections for cosmetic purposes is only limited to procedures involving the face, making the use of the injection in the trapezius “off-label”.

TikTok is giving new names to new uses for the injectable, which has further contributed to the rise of such procedures.

In 2021, the trend was the “Lip Flip,” in which a small amount of Botox is injected into the top lip to replicate the effects of lip filler.
