Fashion designer Hussain Rehar responds to plagiarism accusations over his new collection ‘Jugnu’

An online art store named Kook Studio has accused fashion designer of plagiarising their artwork.

Fashion designer Hussain Rehar responds to plagiarism accusations over his new collection ‘Jugnu’!

The clarification from the award-winning designer arrives after an Instagram art page Kook Studio, alleged that the fashion designer stole their art pieces without giving credit.

Rehar took to his Instagram handle on Sunday and denied all the accusations.

In a lengthy Instagram statement, the fashion designer clarified that his recent collection ‘Jugnu’ did not draw inspiration from any specific individual’s work.

“Jugnu did not draw inspiration from any specific individual’s work. Any interruption in communication with a particular artist occurred due to a project postponement and not as a reflection of our intentions,” said the designer.

“Jugnu, a project in the making for over a year, derives its inspiration from traditional African embroidery designs. While there may be similarities in using the same monochrome palette, these elements are commonly found in various art forms across cultures. In an effort to maintain transparency, we are sharing all relevant images and references.”

He further added that his fashion brand was dedicated to “upholding the principles of artistic expression, cultural appreciation, and ethical design practices. We hold the artistic community in high regard and are committed to resolving any misunderstandings in a respectful manner. We encourage open dialogue and look forward to ensuring that our shared passion for creativity continues to thrive.”

Rehar addressing the backlash, added that it had taken a toll on his reputation as well as his mental health.

“I urge everyone to pause and consider the consequences of reacting to a one-sided story. These comments and criticisms have a real impact on an individual’s life and mental health. I hope we can all strive for a more compassionate and empathetic online environment.”

To endorse his statement Rehar also shared screenshots of his designs along with the pieces that he had used for inspiration.

 

Earlier, also In an Instagram post, Yazdani levelled the allegations against Rehar and claimed that he ‘stole’ her work after offering a collaboration.

The Miniature & doodle artist in a detailed post on Instagram shared about her interaction with Hussain Rehar, and how they had planned to collaborate until she saw her designs being used as part of ‘Jugnu’. 

“I never provided any of my work after negotiations fell through post meeting him. Months later I see a whole line replicating my work,” she claimed in her post about the designer’s new clothing line, Jugnu. In the video, she shared screenshots, purportedly of a conversation with Rehar in which they discussed collaborating on a project. Yazdani shared the similarities in the designs in the video as well.
