Almost a decade after James Cameron Avatar came out, MCU’s Avengers Endgame was able to dethrone it from its spot of a highest-grossing movie ever. Initially, the movie toppled another of Cameron’s greatest hits Titanic to grab the second spot on the world’s box office. While one may think that the two consecutive losses would have left Cameron upset, it is in fact otherwise as he has regained hopes for Avatar 2’s success.
“The thing that scared me most about making Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 was that the market might have shifted so much that it simply was no longer possible to get people that excited about going and sitting in a dark room with a bunch of strangers to watch something,” said the aced director as he spoke to an American publication.
“It gives me a lot of hope. Avengers: Endgame is demonstrable proof that people will still go to movie theaters,” he added.
Not only Avatar 2, but Cameron is also willing to go a notch further and release the third installment of the sci-fi movie which is noted as one of its kind in the earlier days of 3D movies. The filmmaker is confident that he might be gearing up for another massive success.
“Will Avatar 2 and 3 be able to create that kind of success in the zeitgeist? Who knows. We’re trying. Maybe we do, maybe we don’t, but the point is, it’s still possible,” said an optimistic Cameron.
Avatar 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on December 17, 2021, while Avatar 3 will be up for release on December 22, 2023.
