Rishi Kapoor starrer ‘Mulk’ banned in Pakistan?

According to India media and the news abuzz in circuits across the border, the Rishi Kapoor, Tapsee Pannu starrer ‘Mulk’ which is an Anubhav Sinha directorial has been banned in Pakistan and the makers are urging authorities here to reconsider their opionion. A statement by the producer, Deepak Mukut of Soham Rockstar Entertainment reads, “We are disturbed by this prejudiced verdict and it’s such an irony because our film talks about this very prejudice. We urge the Pakistani Censor Board to reconsider their decision. They will realise how essential it is to the well-being of the human race across the world.”

In fact director Anubhav Sinha, in an open letter to all Pakistanis, urge them to watch the film, illegally if they must because it talks about nothing but love and co-existence.

However, the Pakistan Censor Board claims having no knowledge of the film as yet. According to Sindh Board of Film Censor General Secretary Razzaq Khuhawar ‘Mulk’ has not even been submitted to them or the Censor Board for review as yet. Seconding Razzaq Khuhawar’s claims is Usman Peerzada, Deputy Chairman of Punjab Censor Board, claiming he has no knowledge about the film.

Earlier, the members of the CBFC unanimously decided not to approve the trailer of Mulk as the contents of the film openly disregarded the Censorship of Film Code 1980. And citing this reason, a member of Distribution Club confirms the banning of the film in Pakistan by CBFC.  “When the censor (CBFC) banned the trailer, how can a distributor bring the film in,” questioned the member confirming Mulk would not be releasing in Pakistan.
