Trailer review: Sui Dhaga, Bharya hai

We have been hearing a lot about Sui Dhaga. It kicked off its promotions in an innovative way by providing a chance to several embroiders across India to design the logo of the film. Its tailor is out now and the film does promise to offer something novel and different.

The film is inspired by government’s Made in India campaign (one hopes it’s not as blatant in promoting the government as Toilet was). The film highlights struggles of small scale embroiders and tailoring businesses in the modern capitalistic world. Dhawan playing Mauji is overwhelmed with financial responsibilities of a married man trying to support his family. However, but he has a super outlook to life, as we get to hear this dialogue at various times in the trailer ‘Sub bharya hai’ despite all the hardships. While, Mumta (Anuskha Sharma) plays the guiding light to Mauji, as the wife who takes active part in showing her husband the right way and aiding his progress all the way.

Nothing tells us that this is a story of rags to riches. But perhaps it perhaps may become one. But judging for the trailer we will get to see the two mega stars struggle to make ends meet, and that would be refreshing. Everyday problems, are not considered a good sell. It will be interesting how director Sharat Katariya makes that leap of faith.

The film is about self-reliance, which can often turn into an advertisement of capitalism, forcing us to ignore how the person got to that low point. Moreover, with the Made in India angle, there are plenty of pitfall for the film. 28th September is the day we will get more answers. For now, Sub bharya hai.
