Ramadan 2024: First Roza ‘likely’ to be observed on March 12 in Pakistan

The anticipation for the Ramadan crescent sighting adds a significant aspect to the observance of this holy month in the Islamic calendar.

The first Roza is likely to be observed on March 12 (Tuesday) in Pakistan.

The calculations and preparations are being made all across the Muslim world to welcome the holy month of the Islamic year.

The moon for the month of Ramadan will be born on March 10, it will not be visible at the time and can only be seen via the naked eye by March 11.

With this possibility, the first Taraweeh of the holy month will be observed on the night of March 11 [whereas] it is 95% probable that the first fast will be on March 12.

However, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will officially announce the Ramadan crescent sighting after assessing moon sighting reports from across the country.

Meanwhile, many Islamic countries are gearing up to observe the crescent moon for Ramadan on March 10.

Earlier this week the International Astronomical Center noted that the central conjunction is scheduled for 9 am GMT on that day, with the moon expected to set after sunset across most Islamic regions.

And it is anticipated that many countries will mark the beginning of Ramadan on March 11.

Renowned scholars, astronomical observatories like SAAO, and researchers agree that the crescent won’t be visible that day across the Arab and Islamic world, either with the naked eye or through a telescope.

According to scientific criteria for crescent visibility, this makes the likelihood of sighting the crescent on March 10 appear slim.
