Lóong: Chinese New Year 2024 falls on Saturday, February 10th

The Year of the Dragon in 2024 is associated with the element of Wood.

Chinese New Year 2024 falls on Saturday, February 10th, kicking off the 15-day Spring Festival.

This marks the start of the Year of the Wood Dragon (Lóong), bidding farewell to the Year of the Rabbit.

People in China will have public holidays from February 10 to 17, which means 8 days off from work.

For those unserved, the Lunar New Year also referred to as the Spring Festival or Chinese New Year, is celebrated according to the lunisolar calendar and generally falls between 21 January and 20 February.

Most of the countries in Southeast Asia give their citizens time off for the beginning of the Chinese New Year.

The Lunar New Year is a major festival in the Sinosphere or the Sinic world, mainly the Chinese-speaking countries and regions, and countries and regions which have been historically under Chinese influence.

Such countries include mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Vietnam, and South Korea.

Millions around the world are preparing to welcome the Chinese New Year festival with week-long celebrations

As reported, a big family reunion dinner is usually held on Lunar New Year’s Eve, which this year falls on February 9.

The festivities also result in inbound travel in countries that celebrate Lunar Year.

Each Chinese year is named after one of the 12 signs of the Chinese zodiac in a repeating cycle, with this year being the Year of the Wood Dragon.

The Dragon is regarded as one of the most auspicious signs in the Chinese zodiac because of its ability to swim, fly, walk on land, and travel between dimensions.

The dragon sign is associated with the representation of power and courage but is also a symbol of peace.

According to Chinese Astrology, the Year of the Yang Wood Dragon is a fantastic time to start a new business or to begin growing and expanding your hopes and dreams.
