As reported, the pioneering rock’n’roll star who became a pop behemoth in the 1980s has died aged 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.
In a statement, her spokesperson said: “Tina Turner, the ‘Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll’ has died peacefully today at the age of 83 after a long illness in her home in Kusnacht near Zurich, Switzerland.
“With her, the world loses a music legend and a role model.”
Turner first found fame in the 1960s alongside ex-husband Ike Turner, with the classic song River Deep, Mountain High among their repertoire.
Pop hits like The Best and What’s Love Got to Do With It made her a superstar. Her reign as a solo artist gained steam in 1984 when she released “Private Dancer.”
She was a survivor of domestic abuse who went on to inspire other women. She overcame hardships and abuse to become one of the most popular artists of all time.
Famed, for her raunchy and energetic stage performances and husky, powerful vocals, Turner won eight Grammy Awards.
She was inducted into the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame in 2021 as a solo artist, having first been inducted alongside Ike Turner in 1991.
