A 13-years-old Christian girl Arzoo has been recovered by the Sindh Police on Monday. She was forcefully converted to Islam and married to a 44 years old man.
The confirmation comes from the Sindh government spokesperson Murtaza Wahab. The development comes after Sindh High Court’s orders to recover the abducted girl.
In a tweet, Murtaza Wahab said, Wahab, “Happy to inform everyone that Aarzoo has been recovered just now.”
Human rights minister Shireen Mazari also shared about the judge’s order regarding the girl’s recovery and informed that she was shifted to a shelter home.
“Next hearing fixed for Thursday morning. My lawyer has informed court that an intervener will be filed on my behalf,” she had said.
Earlier, Sindh High Court’s Justice Amjad Sahito had stated that under-age marriages were against the law, and directed the authorities to recover Arzoo.
Arzoo’s alleged kidnapping earlier in October had led to protests from human rights groups and civil society.
