COAS assures Pak Army will assist in combating locusts’ attack

Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Thursday assured the civil administration of the country that the military will assist them in tacking locust attacks, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated.

“[The] Army will make all possible resources available to help civil administration in combating [the] locust threat,” Gen Bajwa said.

The ISPR, in a statement said that the COAS visited the National Locust Control Centre in Rawalpindi where he was briefed by the chief coordinator of NLCC, Lieutenant General Moazzam Ejaz.

According to ISPR, Gen Bajwa lauded the role of NLCC “in synergising national efforts in line with the National Action Plan”.

COAS stressed that the food security in the country is needed and can be achieved through effective operations that can help in mitigating the negative economic impact of the attacks.

“The [government] has already declared [a] national emergency in this regard,” the statement added.

It is pertinent to mention here, Pakistan might lose $8.71 billion worth of agricultural crops during this season in case locusts attacks the fields, 75 percent of the standing crops would be ruined.
