Eminent journalist and intellectual Dr. Ajmal Niazi passed away on Sunday night in Lahore aged 75.
His funeral prayers were offered at a cricket ground on Wahdat Road in Lahore at 4:30 pm.
Dr. Niazi was best known for his columns for leading Urdu daily Nawa-i-Waqt.
His column titled ‘Be Niaziyan’ was published for a long time in ‘Nawa-e-Waqt’.
He also served as a lecturer in various colleges and was the author of several books.
His noted works include Jal Thal, Mohammad-ud-Din Fauq, Be Niaziyan, Mihrab in the Temple, and Hameed Nizami’s biography.
The government awarded him with the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in recognition of his services.
Commiserating with the bereaved family, the President prayed for the departed soul.
President said that Dr. Muhammad Ajmal Niazi held a prominent place in the field of literature and journalism.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad expressed his grief over Dr. Ajmal Niazi and prayed that may God rest his soul in peace and give his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss.
