Harry and Meghan will no longer use titles His and Her Royal Highness

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle from now on will not use the titles His and Her Royal Highness. They both will completely step back from the royal family, according to a new statement from Buckingham Palace released on Saturday.

However, the couple will still be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, and Prince Harry will remain a prince,  as being reported by Daily Mail’s royal correspondent Rebecca English.

According to a statement from Buckingham, under the new arrangement, the couple is “required to step back from royal duties, including official military appointments,” and will no longer receive public funds for royal duties.

“This new model will take effect in the spring of 2020,” the palace said.

A statement has been published by Buckingham Palace on behalf of Queen Elizabeth II,  which reads:

“Following many months of conversations and more recent discussions, I am pleased that together we have found a constructive and supportive way forward for my grandson and his family.”

“Harry, Meghan and Archie will always be much loved members of my family. I recognise the challenges they have experienced as a result of intense scrutiny over the last two years and support their wish for a more independent life,” the Queen’s statement continued.

“I want to thank them for all their dedicated work across this country, the Commonwealth and beyond, and am particularly proud of how Meghan has so quickly become one of the family,” the statement read.

“It is my whole family’s hope that today’s agreement allows them to start building a happy and peaceful new life”, the statement from the Queen concluded.

A Buckingham Palace statement also said that Harry and Meghan could “no longer formally represent The Queen”, but the couple would “continue to uphold the values of Her Majesty” in their work.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared their wish to repay Sovereign Grant expenditure for the refurbishment of Frogmore Cottage, which will remain their UK family home,” the palace statement added, referring to a £2.4m taxpayer-funded home renovation in 2019.
