Imran Khan-Bushra Bibi Nikkah case adjourned till April 28

Imran Khan-Bushra Bibi Nikkah case has been adjourned till April 28!

On Saturday, Senior Civil Judge Nasr Minallah Baloch took up the hearing on a petition filed by a citizen Muhammad Hanif complaining that Imran Khan and Bushra solemnized Nikkah when Bushra Bibi was still in Iddat (waiting period for a divorcee or a widow).

The petitioner requested before the court to adjourn the hearing as Nikah reciter Mufti Saeed, a key witness in the case, has gone to perform Umrah.

Accepting the request, the judge put off the case till April 28.

Earlier in the week, Mufti Muhammad Saeed’s statement submitted to the court on 18 January 2023 came to light.

A citizen named Muhammad Hanif approached the court and nominated Imran Khan, Bushra Bibi and the state as parties, urging the court to file a case against the couple under section 496.

Section 496 is related to a marriage ceremony fraudulently gone through without a lawful way and attracts imprisonment which may extend to seven years.

The case was filed in wake of an investigative journalist’s story that claimed the marriage of the PTI chairman with Bushra Maneka was performed at a time when the latter was observing iddah or iddat.

The report further claims that Imran Khan made a request to his nikkah khawan, Mufti Saeed, not to disclose the real date of nikah, fearing that it would create serious implications for him.

Bushra Bibi was divorced on November 14th 2017 and as per Islamic injunctions, she could not enter into marriage with anyone till February 14th 2018, three months.

Imran married Bushra on January 1, 2018, the report claimed.
