Joker origin movie being prequel to The Dark Knight was an April Fool joke

The Joker Origins film, to be directed by Todd Phillips, will serve as a prequel to Christopher Nolan’s 2008 movie The Dark Knight,  reported by many leading newspapers is nothing but an April Fool’s joke describing it, ”it has been confirmed. The film will be set twenty years before The Dark Knight in Gotham.”

It started with a report by Screen Rant first sharing a fake synopsis ”for the DC film from Warner Bros” which later revealed how The Joker, once a ”well meaning man”, came to become one of the most notorious criminals of all time. The story has now been updated with a rider that it was in fact an April fool’s Day joke about the film, which would be produced by Martin Scorsese along with Phillips.

A film is indeed being made by Todd Phillips which is the reason, why so many fell for it.

The movie, which is not a prequel but a separate origin story, will be co-written by Phillips and 8 Mile scribe Scott Silver. No actor has been confirmed to play The Joker in 1980s Gotham, but reports suggest Joaquin Phoenix might land in the iconic role. The Joker has remarkably been part of two Batman movies with Jack Nicholson and Heath Ledger portraying Batman’s arch nemesis, most recently played by Jared Leto in the first Suicide Squad film. He will reprise his role in the Suicide Squad sequel and the Harley Quinn sequel as being reported.
