Civil Judge’s wife gets bail in minor housemaid Rizwana torture case

Prime suspect Somia Asim had been in judicial remand at Adiala Jail since Aug 8.

The civil judge’s wife on Monday managed to get bail in a minor housemaid Rizwana torture case!

A District and Sessions Court in Islamabad granted bail against surety bonds of Rs100,000 to Civil judge Asim Hafeez’s wife, Somia Asim, who allegedly tortured and abused minor housemaid Rizwana.

Sessions Judge Mohammad Haroon presided over today’s hearing.

At today’s hearing, the investigation officer, prosecutor, defense lawyer, complainant’s lawyer, and Rizwana’s family appeared before the court.

Defense lawyer Ghulam Dastgir presented some pictures before the court from Somia Asim and her family’s trip to northern areas, where Rizwana also accompanied them.

The defense lawyer contended that the bruises on Rizwana’s face could be seen in the pictures as well, to prove that her wounds were not new or caused by any torture.

However, the complainant’s lawyer Faisal Jutt opposed the argument.

However, the court accepted Somia’s bail plea and directed her to submit surety bonds of Rs100,000 for the bail.

Prime suspect Somia Asim had been in judicial remand at Adiala Jail since Aug 8.

It may be noted that Somia’s husband, Civil Judge Asim Hafeez is also required in the investigations of the case; but he has not appeared before the joint investigation team (JIT) probing the matter, despite several summons.

14-year-old Rizwana, who hails from Sargodha, was shifted to Lahore General Hospital in critical condition on July 24.
