Maid Torture Case: Primary accused Judge’s wife Somia Asim arrested

The primary accused in the maid torture case Judge’s wife Somia Asim has been arrested!

The wife of civil judge Asim Hafeez, facing the charges of alleged torture and abuse of a 14-year-old Rizwana, was arrested outside a local court in Islamabad on Monday after the cancellation of her bail in the case pertaining to a minor maid’s torture.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Farrukh Fareed ordered the arrest of the civil judge’s wife Somia, while disposing of her bail plea.

“None of your arguments until now are sufficient for an extension in [Somia’s] bail,” the judge stated.
To that, the lawyer said that the first five lines of the case were based on “lies”.

The suspect was subsequently taken into custody by Islamabad police from the court’s premises.

Somia Asim had acquired interim bail to avoid arrest on the allegations of beating and torturing the minor girl employed as domestic help at their house.

Earlier this week, a district and sessions court granted interim bail to the prime accused in the case until August 7 [today] against a surety bond of Rs100,000, directing her to cooperate with the investigation and appear before ADJ Farrukh Farid at the next hearing.

A case was registered against Somia after she was accused of severely torturing a teenage maid, who was admitted to the Lahore General Hospital in critical condition on July 24.

A first information report (FIR) was registered at the Humak police station on the complaint of the victim’s father, Manga Khan. It contained sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
