Justice Asif Saeed Khosa will be the next Chief Justice of Pakistan as President Dr Arif Alvi approved the appointment on Wednesday.
As reported, Mian Saqib Nisar will be retiring from service as the Chief Justice of Pakistan on January 17 and thus Khosa will take charge on January 18 and will serve as the top judge until December 20, 2019.
The law ministry had earlier sent a recommendation of the appointment to the president.
Justice Asif Saeed Khosa was born in Dera Ghazi Khan, Punjab on December 21, 1954. He received his early education in his city of origin. He attained his Bachelor’s degree in Arts from government college, Lahore.
Justice Khosa proceeded to earn his Master’s degree in English from University of Punjab. He became a lawyer after completing his education in law from the UK in 1976.
In June last year, it emerged that a special bench led by Justice Khosa set record in deciding criminal cases. According to Secretary to the Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP) Muhammad Raheem Awan, a special bench led by Justice Khosa decided more than 10,000 cases in a time-span of four years.
