Karachi traders announce a shutter down strike on September 1

Karachi traders have also announced a shutter down strike to be observed on September 1, Friday.

The business community of Karachi has announced a shutdown strike on September 1 against the inflated electricity bills and rising inflation.

An announcement in this regard was being made from a loudspeaker on a pickup spotted near Bohri Bazar on Thursday.

In a statement, Sharjeel Goplani – President of All City Traders Association – said that markets across Karachi will remain closed on Friday (September) in protest against inflated electricity bills and rising inflation.


Other trade unions also backed the decision, saying that all markets of Karachi will observe a shutter down strike on September 1.


Rizwan Irfan – President of Karachi Electronics Dealers Association – also warned of a strike if Sharjeel Goplani’s pre-arrest bail expires.

On the other hand, the business community of Lahore, announced on Thursday, to observe a shutter-down strike on September 2 (Saturday) against the inflated electricity bills and rising inflation.

In a statement, Lahore Traders Association President Mujahid Maqsood Butt said that markets across Lahore will remain closed on Saturday (September 2) in protest against inflated electricity bills and rising inflation in the country.

The inflated power bills have triggered country-wide protests.

Adding more to it, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) announced a nationwide strike on September 2 against inflated electricity bills!

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Siraj Ul Haq said that JI’s shutter down strike would be peaceful.

JI chief also appealed to the masses to make full preparations to make the strike successful for their rights.
