Lahore DIG Shariq Jamal found dead under suspicious circumstances

Lahore DIG Shariq Jamal was found dead at his residence on Saturday.

It was reported at first that Lahore Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, Shariq Jamal, was found dead in suspicious circumstances at his residence.

After probing into the matter, Police have arrested a couple in connection to police-higher up’s death.

The couple had shifted him to a private hospital in Lahore’s DHA from his residence.

Initial Investigations revealed that the DIG was at the couple’s flat at the time of his death, not at his residence.

The couple revealed that Jamal was with them at their flat and they brought him to the medical facility upon deterioration of his health.

DIG Tariq Jamal was brought to a private hospital in DHA at 1:30 am and declared dead on arrival, the police said.

Subsequently, the body was transferred to Jinnah Hospital for autopsy, the police added.

According to the sources, the body has not yet been handed over to the family but will be done after the post-mortem examination.

As reported, the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) team and police inspected the said couple’s flat and collected some evidence such as samples from food and utensils to be later sent for examination.

As soon as the news of Shariq Jamal’s death surfaced, the police officers and Shariq Jamal’s wife reached the hospital.

A case regarding the incident has been registered on the complaint of the deceased DIG’s wife.

DIG Jamal was currently serving as Officer on Special Duty (OSD), he has also served as DIG traffic and DIG railways.

The deceased police officer played a key role as Investigations DIG in the probe and arrests of the suspects in the Minar-e-Pakistan harassment case.
