Lahore receives first ever artificial rain

Lahore received the first-ever artificial rain on Saturday, as the government battles to control the smog.

The country’s first-ever ‘Artificial Rain’, following a cloud seeding experiment carried out by the UAE as a “gift” to the country to combat dense smog, turned out to be a major success, announced caretaker chief minister of Punjab Mohsin Naqvi.

Addressing a press conference, CM Mohsin Naqvi said the government conducted the artificial rain endeavour with the help of UAE which resulted in slight showers in several areas of the city.

The radius of the artificial rain is 10-15 km, the chief minister said.

Sharing details, CM told at the press briefing that at least 48 flares were deployed for cloud seeding.

“We fired 48 flares for cloud seeding in the first mission which was carried out in the morning, and the second mission will take off shortly, he said.

“This was a gift from the UAE government,” he continued. “They managed everything for us. Our people were working with them.”

He further highlighted that the monitoring and attentiveness started as early as 9:00 in the morning, emphasizing an ongoing commitment to the success of the artificial rain initiative.

Naqvi also thanked the Environment Department and UAE team for their help in the process.

He added that the provincial administration will take other steps to curb smog.
