Melania Trump’s statue set on fire in Slovenia

Melania Trump’s statue was set on fire on July 4th in Slovenia by unknown, reports emerged on Thursday.

The attack on US First Lady’s statue comes at a time in the U.S. when statues of Confederate leaders and particularly those with links to slavery are being torn down by anti-racism protestors.

The wooden sculpture of the First Lady was located in her hometown of Sevnica, Slovenia. It was erected in July 2019.

As per Reuters report, local police informed Brad Downey, the American artist who originally commissioned the singular sculpture, that the statue was set on fire and the incident was being investigated.

“I want to know why they did it,” Downey told Reuters.

The Berlin-based artist further added that the purpose behind the statute was to highlight the controversial immigration policy of the Trump administration by spotlighting the fact that Melania Trump was herself an immigrant.

As being reported, Downey engaged local folk artist Ales Zupevc to make the statue which he carved out of the trunk of a linden tree with a chainsaw.

Earlier this year, a wooden statue of President Donald Trump was also burned down in Moravče, some 30 kilometers east of Ljubljana.
