The Foreign Office confirmed on Saturday that all Pakistani nationals are safe in Morocco following the deadly 6.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the African nation on Friday night.
Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch in a statement shared that Pakistan embassy staff in Rabat has reached out to the Pakistani community to inquire about their safety and well-being.
“The people and Government of Pakistan stand in solidarity with the Kingdom of Morocco and express their heartfelt sympathies and condolences at the tragic loss of lives in yesterday’s earthquake,” she added.
The Pakistani embassy in Morocco shared on X-platform that Ambassador Hamid Asghar Khan, officers, staff, and the Pakistani community there expressed their deepest condolence and were “ready to assist in any manner required”.
According to Morocco’s interior ministry, the death toll from the deadly quake has risen to 1,037.
At least 1,200 were injured after a powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.8 struck Morocco, according to state media.
Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar earlier in the day also expressed profound sorrow over the destruction caused by the catastrophic earthquake in Morocco.
PM Kakar in a message shared on X-platform wrote about extending “unity and support” for the grief-stricken nation.
“Our hearts ache for those affected by the severe earthquake in Morocco. Pakistan extends its hand in unity and support to Morocco in this trying time,” the premier said.
President Dr. Arif Alvi also expressed his condolences on the natural disaster and solidarity with the affected people of Morocco.
The president also extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.
