Muslims across the globe mark Eid al Adha in pandemic’s shadow

Muslims across the globe are celebrating Eid al-Adha this year in the pandemic’s shadow as well.

The festive holidays are being affected across the world owing to the surge of Delta Variant.

Tuesday was the first day of Eid Ul Azha for millions of Muslims in various countries across the world including Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America.

A number of counties have relaxed COVID restrictions, while the lockdowns will severely curtail Eid al-Adha festivities in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia’s two largest cities.

In Melbourne, Muslims celebrate their second Eid al-Adha in lockdown in as many years.

Indonesia marked a grim Eid al-Adha on Tuesday amid a devastating new wave of coronavirus cases in the world’s most populous Muslim-majority country.

While Iran on Monday announced to imposed a week-long lockdown from Tuesday in the capital, Tehran, and the surrounding region as the country struggles with another surge in COVID pandemic, state media reported.

On the other hand, in Bangladesh, authorities have allowed an eight-day pause in the country’s strict lockdown for the holiday that health experts say could be dangerous.

Pakistan will mark its first day of Eid ul Azha on Wednesday. Despite constant reminders to take precautionary measures against COVID and rising delta variant cases, Pakistanis are keen to celebrate Eid against the government’s advice.
