There is no vaccine in Pakistan to deal with Monkeypox, it emerges on Thursday.
National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) meeting has been briefed that there had been no vaccine available for the treatment of monkeypox in the country.
All the provincial health secretaries attended the meeting chaired by the health secretary and reviewed planning and operations against coronavirus and monkeypox.
The meeting was held after the confirmation of two cases of the Monkeypox virus in the country.
As reported, a detailed discussion was also held in the meeting on monkeypox vaccination, and it was told at the meeting that there was no vaccine in Pakistan to deal with monkeypox.
“The World Health Organisation will be approached for the monkeypox vaccine,” the meeting decided.
An ongoing outbreak of mpox, a viral disease then commonly known as “monkeypox”, was confirmed in May 2022.
The initial cluster of cases was found in the United Kingdom, where the first case was detected in London on 6 May 2022 in a patient with a recent travel history from Nigeria.
