Pakistan kicks off the COVID-19 vaccination drive on Tuesday,
A milestone was achieved as the first health care worker was administered with the COVID-19 vaccine shot in Islamabad.
Prime Minister Imran Khan and Special Assistant to PM on Health Dr. Faisal Sultan, were also present when the medical crew member was administered the COVID-19 vaccine.
Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked the Chinese government for giving 500,000 doses of the vaccine. “I congratulate our team for carrying out the task speedily,” he added.
Pakistan a day earlier received 500,000 doses of China’s Sinopharm vaccine as a gift from the neighboring country.
In the first phase of the vaccination drive, front-line health workers including doctors, nurses, and other medical staff will receive the shots.
Earlier this month, health secretary Punjab said there are 500,000 healthcare workers in Pakistan dealing with Covid-19 patients.
While 9.5 million over the age of 65 years and 16.8 million are over 60 years.
