The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has announced that it has set a March 3 date to hold intra-party polls
According to the poll schedule, members could submit nomination papers by Feb 23 and 24.
The scrutiny of the paper will be completed by Feb 25 and decisions on the nominations will be taken by Feb 27.
The polling for the internal elections would be held at the party’s central secretariat in Islamabad and PTI offices in all four provinces.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Election Commission of Pakistan declared the PTI’s intraparty polls unconstitutional last year and revoked its iconic symbol ‘the bat’. The verdict was challenged in PHC, which had overturned the order. However, the ECP’s decision prevailed when the matter was taken to the apex court.
After the electoral watchdog’s decision, party leaders contested the Feb 8 elections as independent candidates.
PTI’s next chairman nominee is Barrister Ali Zafar, PTI leader Barrister Gohar Ali Khan announced Thursday, as the former ruling party’s top post remains vacant for more than a month.
“This time, our candidate for party chairman will be Barrister Ali Zafar and Omar Ayub secretary general,” Gohar said while talking to the media outside Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail after meeting party founder Imran Khan.
He asserted that the PTI would play its role in Parliament and would work on moving the parliamentary system forward.
“This will be the first time that those who do not have the people’s mandate will be sitting [in the assemblies],” he said.
He further added that PTI believed in parliamentary politics, reiterating that the party would play its role in Parliament.
“This is Khan Sahib’s decision,” he maintained.
