The preliminary investigation revealed that children had brought home a rocket launcher shell that was found by on agricultural land — where it exploded.
The house was situated in the Ghora Ghat of Kutcha (riverine) area of Kashmore district’s Kandhkot tehsil, in the limits of Goghat police station.
Kashmore-Kandhkot Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Rohail Khoso confirmed the casualties, specifying that the deceased included four children, two women, and a man.
He said that the house belonged to Ali Nawaz Sabzoi and that all the deceased and injured belonged to the same family.
According to police, three others were injured in the explosion.
Law enforcement agencies reached the spot following the incident and an investigation into the matter has been started.
Sindh caretaker Chief Minister Maqbool Baqar taking notice of the incident has sought a detailed report from Inspector-General (IG) Dr Riffat Mukhtar.
The interim CM questioned how the rocket launcher reached the village.
“Was any stock of weapons being smuggled to the Kutcha areas? Are there facilitators of the dacoits present in the village? A detailed report should be submitted,” he said.
