Arshad Sharif‘s wife confirmed the news of his death in the wee hours of Monday.
In a tweet, Javeria Siddique said, “I lost friend, husband and my favourite journalist @arsched today, as per police he was shot in Kenya.”
Arshad Sharif’s widow added, “Respect our privacy and in the name of breaking pls don’t share our family pics, personal details, and his last pictures from the hospital. Remember us in your prayers.”
It was reported earlier that senior journalist Arshad Sharif was shot dead in Nairobi, Kenya.
Further details of the incident were not immediately known.
Sources report that the incident is being investigated by the Kenyan local police.
In the latest development, Police in Kenya have confirmed to Pakistan Strategic Forum, through the partner defence communities in Nairobi, that Pakistani citizen Arshad Sharif was “shot in the head by armed assailants while travelling by road”.
They further said an investigation has started.
The police have not ruled out the possibility of gang violence or armed robbery, and have so far said they will not comment as to if they are treating the ongoing investigation as an “assassination”.
According to sources, Arshad Sharif also went to London from Dubai a few days ago.
