Sarfaraz Ahmed fined 20% match fee for slow over rate

Pakistan’s tremendous win against England came at a bit of a financial cost for the team due to slow over rate. A fine of 20% of the match fee has been imposed on the captain, while the whole team faces a fine of 10% of the match fee.

“Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed was fined 20% of his match fee whilst his teammates were fined 10% each following a minor over rate breach after Pakistan was ruled to be one over short of its target after time allowances were taken into consideration,” the ICC said in a press release.

Pakistan fielded four specialist bowlers, including spinner Shadab Khan. The other 10 overs were bowled by off spinning duo of Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik. It would be worrying for team management that even with 20 overs of spin, Pakistan couldn’t complete their quota of overs in time.

England were reportedly 3 overs short and there is a chance that English captain will face a stricter penalty, even a ban. However, ICC has not made a decision on it so far.

Moreover, Jason Roy and Jofra Archer were fined 15% of match fee after they were found guilty of breaching player’s code of conduct.

“Jason Roy was found to have breached Article 2.3 ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to using audible obscenities in an international match. In addition to the 15% fine, one demerit point has been added to Roy’s disciplinary record,” said the ICC.

“Archer was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to showing dissent at an umpire’s decision,” the statement added.

Roy, shouted obscenity after misfielding the ball, while Archer showed dissent towards the umpire after a bouncer was called a wide. A demerit point in the disciplinary record of both players has been added.
