Beware of the fake news! Saudi Arabia hasn’t voted against Pakistan at FATF

Beware of the fake news! Saudi Arabia hasn’t voted against Pakistan at FATF on Thursday.  Foreign Office spokesperson categorically rejected the story circulating on social media as false and baseless.

Social media in Pakistan saw news making to the top trend that Saudi Arabia voted against Pakistan at the FATF session.

Whereas the FATF plenary session is to be held from 21-23 Oct in Paris. It will take up Pakistan’s case on the last day of the meeting tomorrow (Friday), OCT 23rd. The plenary will decide Pakistan’s fate whether to keep the country on the grey list for another extended period or to remove it. 

Reportedly, Pakistan has made significant progress to stay out of the blacklist and will be out of the grey list soon.

Responding to the fake news, the official social media account of the Government of Pakistan has rejected the fake news in a statement released in a series of tweets.

Rejection of false media report on FATF, the statement said, “Responding to media queries regarding the role of Saudi Arabia in the assessment of Pakistan’s FATF Action Plan, the Spokesperson categorically rejected the story circulating on a segment of the media as false and baseless”.

“Pakistan greatly values its relations with brotherly Saudi Arabia and firmly rejects such malicious propaganda. FATF will announce its assessment of Pakistan’s progress on the Action Plan and the future course of action after the conclusion of its Plenary Meeting”, the statement added.
