Schools in Sindh are to remain closed till August 19

Schools in Sindh are to remain closed till August 19!

The announcement was made on Sunday by the Sindh education Syed Sardar Ali Shah.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, he said: “The decision has been taken that we will keep schools closed till Aug 19 [as well as] colleges.”

He also said that a notification would be issued tomorrow (Monday) to ensure mandatory vaccination for teachers and only vaccinated teachers would be allowed on-premises.

The decision was made by the government of Sindh on the recommendation of the health department ahead of easing Covid restrictions.

The Sindh cabinet was scheduled to meet today to decide whether to lift the restrictions it had imposed on July 30 or to extend some of them a day before the lockdown period ends on August 9.

According to a notification issued by the Sindh government’s school education and literacy department, “all public and private educational institutions under [its] administrative control” would remain closed till Aug 19 due to the prevailing Covid-19 situation.

“However, that examinations would take place as per the schedule announced by the respective boards. Principals would also ensure the presence of essential staff for maintenance and cleanliness of the colleges during the closure period,” the notification added.

It has been so far decided to let educational institutions remain closed for a further period until Muharram 10.

National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) a day earlier had announced to lift lockdown imposed in the Sindh province from August 09 while continuing with other restrictions on movement.

According to the NCOC, Karachi and Hyderabad will face new restrictions on movement from August 09.

According to details, it was proposed during the NCOC meeting that the business hours should be extended in Karachi until 8:00 pm with complete closure on two days a week.

It was also proposed to allow holding marriage functions in the country in the open air with permission to invite-only 200 guests.
