At PM Khan’s request, Sri Lankan govt. allows burial of Muslim COVID-19 victims

At Prime Minister Imran Khan’s request, the Sri Lankan government has allowed the burial of Muslim COVID-19 victims.

In this regard, official notification has been issued on Friday.

Sri Lanka has finally lifted the controversial ban which was imposed last year in March siting that the bodies of COVID-19 victims could only be cremated as the virus could spread by contaminating groundwater.

Following the development, PM Imran Khan has welcomed the official notification allowing the burial option for those dying of COVID-19 and tanked the Sri Lankan leadership.

During his visit to Sri Lanka, Muslim parliamentarians had urged PM Imran Khan to bring up the issue with the Sri Lankan political leaders.
