A strong earthquake reported to be of 6.3 magnitude, has hit central Croatia, causing considerable damage to buildings in Petrinja, a town southeast of the capital Zagreb.
Injuries are being reported with fears of casualties from the area.
Croatian state broadcaster HRT has confirmed the death of a girl in the earthquake. The child’s age or other details were not immediately available.
The epicenter of the earthquake is reported to be the town of Petrinja, about 60km (37 miles) from the capital Zagreb, which seems to be no longer exist.
The Mayor of Petrinja Darinko Dumbovic said in a statement broadcast by HRT TV: “My town has been completely destroyed, we have dead children.
“This is like Hiroshima – half of the city no longer exists.”
On Monday, the same area was struck by a 5.2 quake.
The earthquake was felt throughout the country on Tuesday. It was also felt in Serbia, Bosnia, and Herzegovina and as far away as Graz in southern Austria.
