Suella Braverman, UK Home Secretary was sacked on Monday after controversial comments over pro-Palestine protests.
Hoever the development is being regarded as British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has started his reshuffle of the cabinet with a general election likely to take place within the next 12 months.
James Cleverly is reported to have been appointed as her replacement.
As reported, she was asked to leave the job this morning by PM Rishi Sunak.
According to the British media reports, Sunak came under growing pressure to axe Braverman, an outspoken right-winger.
Critics from both opposition parties and fellow Tory MPs called Ms Braverman’s comments “offensive” and “inflammatory”, and accused her of heightening tensions during weeks of pro-Palestinian demonstrations and counter-protests in Britain.
Braverman is reported to have been sacked following days of a political firestorm sparked when she wrote an article for The Times newspaper, accusing the police of applying a”double standard” and taking a tougher stance with right-wing demonstrations.
In an op-ed published in The Times on Thursday, Braverman suggested police had been more lenient with recent protests against Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, which she described as “hate marches,” than with right-wing protesters or football hooligans.
The article had not been given the green light by Downing Street, contrary to the usual protocol and it emerged later that Braverman had defied a Downing Street request to tone the article down.
The pro-Palestinian demonstration – which coincided with Armistice Day – featured more than 300,000 people marching through central London demanding a ceasefire in Gaza.
