WhatsApp and Instagram services have been restored after a global outage on late Wednesday night.
Users started experiencing issues connecting to WhatsApp in multiple countries just after 2PM ET Wednesday, with the service stuck on “connecting” for many.
In Pakistan, the outage commenced around 11:45 pm local time, leaving millions bewildered as they encountered error messages proclaiming the unavailability of the services.
During the outage, people could still send messages, but they weren’t delivered until WhatsApp service was restored online.
On Instagram, users were unable to refresh their feeds or catch up on the latest stories, leaving them stranded in a virtual void.
According to Downdetector, which tracks outages by collating status reports from several sources including user-submitted errors on its platform, around 3,200 people were also facing issues with Instagram in the United States.
Nearly 3,500 users in India, about 10,000 in the United Kingdom and over 7,000 in Brazil also reported problems with the platform, Downdetector data showed.
“We know some people are experiencing issues right now, we’re working on getting things back to 100% for everyone as quickly as possible,” WhatsApp said in a post on the social media platform X.
