World to witness the first solar eclipse of 2023 on April 20

But it will not be visible anywhere in Pakistan

The world will witness the first solar eclipse of 2023 on April 20, Thursday.

The partial solar eclipse will start in the Indian Ocean, coming onshore on the west coast of Australia, which may also be a hybrid solar eclipse but it will not be visible anywhere in Pakistan.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), some parts of the world will witness the rare solar eclipse partially and some completely.

The solar eclipse will be visible from parts of southern and eastern Asia, Australia and Antarctica, and over the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.

As per the PMD, the timings (PST) for the different phases of the solar eclipse are:

  • Eclipse begins at 6:34 am (PST)
  • A total eclipse will occur at 7:37 am (PST)
  • Eclipse will peak at 9:17 am (PST)
  • Ends at 11:59 am (PST)

A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, casting its shadow on the planet.

A hybrid eclipse, also known as an annular-total eclipse, is a unique phenomenon where the eclipse appears as a total eclipse in some areas, and as an annular eclipse in others.
