Despite the Information minister’s claim about X, formerly Twitter being accessible, it remains blocked!
During a press conference on March 13, Pakistan’s newly-appointed information minister Attaullah Tarar was questioned about access to X being blocked across the country.
Attaullah Tarar replied to the query stating. “Twitter [X] is working.”
“Tweets are being posted on Twitter too. If there is a [official] notification calling for the closure of [Twitter], you can show it to me. We can discuss it,” he added.
However, the microblogging site continues to be inaccessible without using VPN.
There are a few moments in the day when the service temporarily resumes for a few minutes, which is way beyond understanding.
According to the Rome-based Open Observatory of Network Interference (OONI), a global network which documents internet censorship, X (Twitter) was “not accessible in Pakistan on multiple networks since February 17”.
OONI told Geo Fact Check via email that Pakistani users have been facing restrictions since Feb. 17 and that access to X has to date not been restored.
