T20 World Cup: Ireland in the second massive upset beats England

England was five runs behind on the DLS scoring method, giving Ireland a famous victory when the game was called off due to rain

Ireland in the second massive upset of the ongoing ICC T20 World beat England by 5 runs in the rain-affected match on Wednesday.

Ireland defeated England by 5 runs under the Duckworth-Lewis method.

In the match played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia, England won the toss and decided to field against Ireland.

However, the match was delayed due to rain at the start, and after the score of 11 runs in 1.3 overs, it rained again in Melbourne.

As the match resumed, Ireland scored 157 runs in 19.2 overs as the Irish side was dismissed.

Captain Andy Balberney played a responsible batting inning of 62 runs while other batsmen included Paul Stirling 14, Lorcan Tucker 34, Curtis Kaempfer 13, Mark Adair 4, Barry McCarthy 3, Fionn Hand one while Harry Tector and George Dockrell were without. Scored no runs and lost a wicket.

On behalf of the English bowlers, Mark Wood and Liam Livingston took 3, 3 while Sam Curran took 2 wickets and Ben Stokes took one wicket.

The English team got off to a disappointing start in pursuit of the target.

Eighteen minutes were lost to rain at the beginning of the game and the players were taken off again with England on 105-5 off 14.3 overs just as Moeen Ali was getting into his stride.

Moeen Ali scored 24 runs off 12 balls but the match was stopped due to rain.

The Irish bowlers, Josh Little took 2 wickets while Barry McCarthy, Gareth Delaney, and George Dockrell took one wicket each.

England was five runs behind on the DLS scoring method, giving Ireland a famous victory when the game was called off a few minutes later.

It was Ireland’s second massive upset of the tournament. They had beaten West Indies in the first round to send the two-time champions home.
