Mike Tyson returns to the ring after 15 years

Mike Tyson returns to the ring this Sunday fifteen years after retiring. The former heavyweight champion will square off against fellow boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. for an exhibition fight titled “Frontline Battle.”

The former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, 54, will go against former four-division world champion Roy Jones Jr., 51, in an eight-round contest in Carson, California. 

Tyson, regarded as one of the most feared boxers of all time. He finished his first year as a professional boxer with a 15-0 record, with all wins by knockouts. His last bout was in 2005 when he lost to Kevin McBride.

While Jones Jr. is a former world champion who has a 66-9 record. He won his last match in 2018 against Scott Sigmon.

This is going to be an ‘exhibition’ match, though the rules have reportedly been adjusted so it can end with a knockout.

The total of 8 rounds will be 60 seconds shorter than usual — two minutes, instead of three — and the fight has been sanctioned by the California State Athletic Commission.
And the pair will use 12-ounce gloves without any protection.

there are no titles at stake since it’s an exhibition fight, but the winner will receive a commemorative belt create for the fight.

 

On Friday, both the fighters showed off their impressive physiques with Tyson weighing 220.4 lbs and Jones Jr, at 210 lbs during the face-offs.

As being reported, the World Boxing Council WBC will support, commemorate, and score the fight.
WBC President Mauricio Sulaimán said in a news release, said, “Despite the isolation and tribulations COVID-19 has caused, Tyson and Jones Jr. have shown us that when a person embraces a positive mental outlook, turns on his or her positive mental switch, all challenges can be overcome which is why we have created a one of a kind commemorative belt created specifically for the occasion.”
